Noah’s Ark has volunteer opportunities for all ages. We like to capture the interest of children before they get too old to appreciate and adore and learn the responsibilities of pet ownership.
14 to 16 years old: Must apply for special mentoring, by writing an essay of why they want to volunteer and have an interview with one of our staff members. This is a great high school project and looks great on college applications. If the parent wants to attend with the volunteer, no essays is needed.
8-13 years old: Must be accompanied by an adult, guardian, or mentor.
Under 8 years old: At the discretion of the parent and sometimes better suited to volunteer in one of the off-premise opportunities. Must be accompanied by an adult or guardian. We find 8 and under only have about a ½ hour attention span.
We do not want to discourage anyone from volunteering and gaining the experience and unconditional love an animal can bring, but a child may not be dropped off and stay unsupervised by a parent or guardian, unless the minor is in the mentorship program. We are busy attending to the animals ourselves and these animals can be dangerous.
